Her family had been denounced to the Inquisition by slaves and servants. Her stepmother and two brothers fled to Livourne or Amsterdam in c. 1700. In 1702-1703, her brothers-in-law João Tavares Pacheco and António Henriques de Vilhena also left Portugal. The rest of her family was arrested. In the Jewish Museum’s collection, there is a silver Hanukah lamp with decoration of Elijah and the ravens that was designed for Elias Lindo by John Ruslen in 1709, on the occasion of their marriage. Known as the Lindo lamp it is the oldest example of a Hanukah lamp made in England (source: Jewish Museum).
